Eagles Lose, Share Title With Irvine

The Santa Margarita girls’ soccer team, ranked No. 1 in the county and Division I, lost its first game of the season when Newport Harbor beat the Eagles, 1-0, Thursday at Newport Harbor.

With the upset, Santa Margarita (22-1-3, 7-1-2) lost sole possession of the Sea View League title and will share the league championship with Irvine, ranked fifth in the county and 10th in Division I.

Meghan Allard scored the game winner for Newport Harbor (6-8-7, 4-4-2), when she kicked in a rebound 30 minutes into the first half.

In other Sea View League games:

Irvine 7, Corona del Mar 1--Shannon Filbin and Erin Rummens each scored two goals for No. 5 Irvine (13-4-7, 6-0-4). The victory completed Irvine’s first undefeated season in league. Corona del Mar finished 6-16-1, 1-9.

Woodbridge 3, El Toro 0--Woodbridge (12-7-4, 5-4-1) earned an automatic playoff bid with a third-place finish in league, as Malissa Thornhill, Holly Robison and Jessica Allen each scored. El Toro finished 8-16-1, 2-7-1.
