Baker Leads Rancho Santiago to Tournament Victory

Derik Baker doubled in two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Rancho Santiago to its second victory of the day, 7-6, over Imperial Valley at the Casey Stengel baseball tournament Saturday at Fullerton College. In an earlier game, Rancho Santiago’s Tony Zuniga had three hits and two runs batted in as the Dons defeated Los Angeles Valley, 9-5. Rancho Santiago is 10-1.

In other games:

Fullerton 17, Bakersfield 4--Jason Theis was four for five with a home run, double and six RBIs for Fullerton (9-1), which won its ninth consecutive game. Andy Tellez was three for four with two doubles and three runs scored. He also had two RBIs, giving him 13 for the tournament.

Earlier, Fullerton defeated Cerro Coso, 16-2. Chris Kelly (2-0) retired the last 16 batters he faced for the victory.

Saddleback 12, Imperial Valley 4--Paul Day was three for six with a home run and three RBIs for Saddleback. Ryan Tack pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and striking out eight.

Earlier Saturday, Saddleback defeated Los Angeles Valley, 9-2, as Charlie Dieruf (2-0) pitched a complete game. Dieruf gave up five hits, one walk and struck out one.

In the Golden Coast baseball tournament:

Cypress 9, Canyons 6--Cypress came back from a five-run deficit, scoring four runs in the third inning and three in the seventh. Junior Rodriguez had a two-run single and Jeremy Booth had a run-scoring double.

Earlier, Cypress (10-4) fell to Sequoias, 8-2.

Golden West 7, L.A. Harbor 3--Josh La Rocca struck out seven and gave up five hits in his second complete game in two starts for Golden West (6-4). In an earlier game, Southwestern (5-3) had a five-run fifth inning to defeat the Rustlers, 12-8.

In nonconference softball:

Saddleback 12, Southwestern 4--Christina Loya drove in four runs, going three for four with a home run. Christy Journell was four for four with a run scored for Saddleback (6-2).
