Fullerton Wins in 11th on Simpson’s Double

Matt Simpson had a two-run double in the 11th inning, helping Fullerton to an 8-6 victory over Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at OCC.

Simpson also homered and hit another double for first-place Fullerton (14-2, 5-0). OCC (13-3, 1-3) tied it, 6-6, on Deric Yanagisawa’s two-out single in the ninth.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Golden West 3, Irvine Valley 2--Kris Carlson doubled in a run and then scored as visiting Golden West (4-2, 1-1) scored three runs in the first inning.

Rancho Santiago 1, Orange Coast 0--Liz Perez’s RBI single scored Taryn Aguilar from first on a hit-and-run play in the fifth inning for host Rancho Santiago (11-10-1, 1-2).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Orange Coast 0--Keith Snaveley and Brian Gruner were down, 5-2, in doubles but rallied to win, 7-5, 6-4, for Saddleback (8-0, 6-0).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Fullerton 7, Riverside 2--Debbie Vonusa won, 6-2, 6-0, as host Fullerton completed the first round of conference 5-0.
