DeArman’s Double Duty Sparks a Westlake Sweep

Kelly DeArman struck out eight in the first game and had three runs batted in in the second as Westlake High swept Ventura, 6-1 and 14-4, in a nonleague softball doubleheader Thursday at Ventura.
The Warriors (4-0) had a six-run fifth inning, behind a three-run triple by Sara Koppel, in the first game, and a 13-run first inning in the second game.
Koppel struck out three and walked four in the second game for her second victory.
In other nonleague games:
Paraclete 2, Alemany 1--Talya Sabadin and Kristal Nessa each delivered run-scoring singles in the fifth inning for Paraclete at Alemany.
Vicki McKay (1-0) struck out five and did not walk a batter while allowing five hits. Teammate Kathy Munoz had three hits.
Alemany scored its run in the fifth on a fielder’s choice.
Agoura 5, Moorpark 1--Jennifer Grennan struck out four and walked three as the Chargers (1-0) defeated Moorpark (1-1) at Agoura. Grennan and Heather Bunch each had two hits and two RBIs for Agoura.
Calabasas 2, L.A. Baptist 1--Kate Horton scored the winning run on a passed ball in the sixth inning as the Coyotes (1-1-1) edged the Knights (1-1) at Calabasas.
Village Christian 16, Flintridge Sacred Heart 2--Jackie Aranda struck out nine, walked one, and had three hits and two RBIs for the Crusaders (2-1) at Glorietta Field in Glendale.
Verdugo Hills 6, Reseda 3--Melanie Wood had two hits and an RBI and pitched four shutout innings with six strikeouts for the Dons (3-0) at Reseda.
Kristy Rebbeck hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning, for the Regents (1-2).
BASEBALL
Royal 6, Santa Margarita 0--Mike Rainer had four strikeouts and gave up one hit over four innings for Royal (4-0) in the semifinals of the El Segundo tournament.
Royal took a 2-0 first-inning lead when Dorian Stitt singled home Brent Egan, and Adrian Mendoza scored on a fielder’s choice.
Agoura 6, Grant 2--Jeff Gershon had two hits and drove in two runs for the host Chargers (3-0) in a San Fernando Valley tournament game at Agoura. Chris Cicuto added a pair of sacrifice flies for Agoura.
Steven Hamm had three hits and scored once for the Lancers.
In other San Fernando Valley tournament games:
Cleveland 3, Canoga Park 0--Casey Roth had two doubles and two RBIs for the Cavaliers (4-0) at Cleveland.
Westlake 2, Birmingham 1--Mike McHargee had two hits and scored both runs as the Warriors (2-3) defeated the Braves (1-3) at Birmingham.
Kennedy 9, Palmdale 4--Aldo Pinto had three hits, including a pair of doubles, for the Golden Cougars (4-0) at Kennedy.
Camarillo 8, Sylmar 7--The Spartans walked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, handing the Scorpions (3-1) a victory in the Westside tournament game at Camarillo. The Scorpions’ Tom Trejo (2-0) earned his second victory in two days with 2 2/3 innings of three-hit relief.
In other Westside tournament games:
Saugus 6, Notre Dame 4--Nate Wright had three hits and drove in two runs as the Centurions (2-2) defeated the Knights (1-3) at Saugus.
Chatsworth 11, Channel Islands 1--Andrew Silver (2-0) threw four no-hit innings for the Chancellors (4-0) before yielding to Greg Wold at Chatsworth. Joe Tillmon had one hit and drove in two runs and Wold had two hits for Chatsworth.
