Los Alamitos’ Ball Pitches No-Hitter Against Western

Los Alamitos senior Jason Ball pitched a no-hitter to lead the Griffins to a 3-0 victory over Western in a consolation game of the Loara baseball tournament Thursday at Western High.
Ball struck out nine and walked two. Los Alamitos is 3-1.
In other Loara tournament games:
Katella 1, Diamond Bar 0--Joe Fraser pitched a two-hitter for host Katella (4-0), which advanced to the final to play Marina.
In the North Orange County tournament semifinals:
Valencia 13, Pioneer 3--Mark Swanson had five runs batted in for Valencia (2-1), which advanced to play Buena Park, an 11-0 winner against La Habra.
In the Costa Mesa tournament:
Bolsa Grande 6, Costa Mesa 4--Coach Vern Nelson picked up his 200th career victory for Bolsa Grande (4-0-1), which advanced to Saturday’s final.
In nonleague golf:
Servite 197, Cypress 217--Servite’s Jeff McGraw made five birdies in shooting a one-under 35 at Hacienda.
Los Alamitos 186, Cerritos Gahr 223--Los Alamitos’ Jason Beach shot a four-under 31 at La Mirada.
In nonleague softball:
La Quinta 7, Santa Ana Valley 1--Kelly McLaughlin pitched a no-hitter, striking out the first seven batters. She allowed an unearned run in the fourth. La Quinta improves to 3-3.
Trabuco Hills 13, Laguna Beach 4--Kim Yankie had three hits and seven RBIs for visiting Trabuco Hills (2-0).
In nonleague boys’ track and field:
El Toro 85, Mission Viejo 52--Elliott Parks high-jumped 6-9 for El Toro.
