Glendale Drops Crescenta Valley, 11-9

The upstart Glendale High baseball team scored seven runs in the final three innings en route to an 11-9 victory over Crescenta Valley in a Pacific League game Saturday at Crescenta Valley.

Bryan Chan (2-1) pitched six innings and had two run-scoring doubles for the Dynamiters (4-1, 2-1 in league play). Phil Onsaga, who hit a home run, pitched the final inning and earned a save.

Billy Huddleston had two hits for Crescenta Valley (3-5, 1-2).

St. Bonaventure 6, Ventura 5--Nick Trujillo hit a two-run single with two out and two strikes in the seventh inning for the Seraphs (9-3) in a nonleague game at Ventura.

Jeremy Scarlett (1-0) struck out five and did not allow an earned run.

L.A. Baptist 27, St. Genevieve 11--John Wilson, Ed Jung and Peter Dirksen each had three hits and four runs batted in for the Knights (7-3) in the third-place game of the L.A. Baptist tournament. The Knights had 24 hits. In a nine-run first inning, they went through three Valiant pitchers.

Serrano 8-9, Highland 4-3--Highland committed seven errors in the two nonleague games, leading to four unearned runs in the first game and five unearned runs in the second.

In the doubleheader, Jacob Stanwood had four hits and drove in three runs for Highland (2-7).

Quartz Hill 11-9, Hesperia 5-5--Larry Phillips hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs in the first game as the Rebels (6-2) swept a nonleague doubleheader at Hesperia. Parker Metheny led Quartz Hill with two hits in the second game. Teammates Brett May and Greg Lattimore hit consecutive doubles to score two runs.

Banning 8, North Hollywood 6--The Huskies rallied from a 6-0, fourth-inning deficit to send the second-round Redondo tournament game into extra innings, but lost in the eighth. Ismael Rangsiyawong had three hits, including a home run, scored two runs and drove in three for North Hollywood (4-6).

Hector Menchaca had two hits and two stolen bases, and Merrill Dunn added two hits, including a double, for the Huskies.

SOFTBALL

Hoover 6-4, Long Beach Jordan 2-3--Karla De La Torre (2-1) pitched a one-hitter and Karla Nanne scored the winning run on a Panther throwing error in the bottom of the seventh to give the Tornadoes (5-3) the victory in the second game and a sweep of a nonleague doubleheader at Hoover.

La Reina 5-0, Royal 3-5--Royal (5-4) tied the first game, 3-3, in the eighth, but couldn’t come back after the Regents (5-4) took a 5-3 lead in the top of the ninth on a double by Ami Thompson.

Kaelynn Jones struck out 13 and walked none in recording the victory in the second game.

Cornerstone Christian 25, Marshall 0--Jen Feistel (5-1) pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out seven, and Julia Tamai had four hits, including a pair of triples, and drove in five runs for the Eagles (6-2) in a nonleague game at Cornerstone Christian.

Jennifer Hughes had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs for the Eagles.

Reseda 10, Venice 0--Senior Rosie Yeatts and junior Kristy Rebbeck, who have split pitching duties the past two seasons, threw their first combined no-hitter for the Regents (6-2) in a Garfield tournament game.

Yeatts (3-0) struck out eight in five innings. Rebbeck retired six consecutive batters in the final two innings.

Yeatts had three hits, including her second home run of the season, and drove in three runs. Patricia Pena hit a three-run homer, her first, and had four RBIs. Rebbeck was three for three.

Earlier in the day, Reseda edged Westchester, 4-3. Regent catcher Jenaye Brown broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning with a two-out double that scored Gabby Lopez.

Rebbeck (3-2) picked up the victory in relief.

Verdugo Hills 6, Bell 2--Jodi Kent had three hits for the Dons (7-2) in pool play of the Garfield tournament.

Kent slugged her second home run of the season in a 10-0 victory over Venice earlier in the day. Rian Standley also hit a home run for Verdugo Hills.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame d. Canoga Park, 15-8--Bro Richmond and Doug Noonan led the Knights in the championship of the Saugus tournament.

Richmond was named the tournament’s most valuable player, and Noonan was selected to the all-tournament team.
