Fick Starts Over, CSUN Finishes Westmont, 11-0

It didn’t take long for Cal State Northridge’s Robert Fick to regain his form.

After his 27-game hitting streak come to a halt a day earlier, Fick bounced back with four hits in the Matadors’ 11-0 nonconference victory over Westmont at Matador Field on Wednesday.

Fick, who had three singles and a double, also stole three bases.

Northridge (30-6) had 14 hits against Westmont (10-10) in winning its eighth consecutive game.

The victory gave the Matadors, ranked No. 5 by Collegiate Baseball magazine, 30 victories for the first time since 1993.

Northridge used four pitchers, each of whom allowed one hit. Nathan Rice (1-1) earned his first victory with five innings of work.

The Matadors’ Jeremy Conrad added a three-run home run in the sixth inning. It was his third of the season.

Pepperdine 2, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1--Two first-inning runs held up for the Waves (22-13) in a nonconference game at Pepperdine.

David Matranga doubled home a run and later scored on a fielder’s choice.

Five Pepperdine pitchers held Dominguez Hills (19-10) to five hits.

Cal Lutheran 4, UC San Diego 2--Eric Ruben hit a two-run single for the Kingsmen in the 10th inning at UC San Diego.

Rudy Lesko (2-0) earned the victory in relief for the Kingsmen, the No. 2-ranked team in the NCAA Division III poll.

Azusa Pacific 15, The Master’s 5--The Mustangs’ futility against Azusa Pacific continued with their 17th consecutive loss to the Cougars (15-8, 10-4) in a nonconference game at Master’s.

Pierce 5, Valley 3--Mike Glendenning hit a two-run single in the sixth inning for the Brahmas in a Western State Conference South Division game at Pierce.

Glendale 4, Bakersfield 3--Jamie Isenhart led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run to snap a 3-3 tie and give the Vaqueros (9-14, 4-8) a WSC South Division victory at Glendale.

SOFTBALL

Cuesta 10, Valley 5--Sari Brook had three hits including a two-run triple for the Monarchs (5-17, 1-6) in a WSC game.

Pierce 1, Santa Monica 0--Kelly Balkey’s single drove in Maryann May for the Brahmas in a WSC game at Pierce.

Kelly Lovato pitched a one-hitter for Pierce (15-4-1, 6-2).
