Titans Roll to 12th Baseball Victory in a Row

Top-ranked Cal State Fullerton continued its best start in school history, getting 14 hits in a 12-1 victory over San Diego Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton.

Skip Kiil hit a grand slam and Jeremy Giambi had three hits, including a solo home run, for the Titans (27-2), who have won 12 consecutive games.

Kiil and Giambi homered in a six-run fourth inning. Giambi also singled and doubled and increased his team-high batting average to .472.

C.J. Ankrum, Mike Lamb and Tony Martinez each had two hits and Mark Kotsay had an RBI double for Fullerton.

Scott Hild pitched four scoreless innings and improved to 5-0 for Fullerton. Titan pitchers gave up only six hits and one walk to the Toreros (9-16-1).

San Diego scored its run when Matt Wise hit a batter with the bases loaded in the fifth. He struck out the next batter.

In nonconference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 0-3, Stanford 2-0--Senetha Thomas went three for three, including her sixth home run of the season, and Liza Brown and Brandi Isgar combined on a six-hit shutout for the Titans (26-11) in a 3-0 victory in the second game.

Stanford (17-12) won the first game in extra innings, 2-0, by scoring two runs in the top of the ninth. Becky Blevins pitched a four-hitter for the Cardinal.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Cal State Fullerton 5, Santa Clara 2--Kara Kolb won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with Denise Wilson to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, for host Fullerton (5-13). Jennifer Canfield, Nicole Kilian and Alejandra Arredondo also won their singles matches for the Titans.
