JETHAWKS UPDATE

Apparently there is some question if Seattle Mariner right-hander Chris Bosio will pitch for the JetHawks on Monday, as originally scheduled.

JetHawk Manager Dave Brundage said he heard the news from higher-ups in the organization, but did not get a reason.

If Bosio, who is on rehabilitation from off-season knee surgery, does not pitch, Brett Hinchliffe will start. Hinchliffe, whose turn in the rotation falls on Monday, would have relieved Bosio after he reached his pitch limit.

Hinchliffe has been bothered this spring by an elbow problem, but he said he is slowly getting back to form.

“It’s a lot better every day,” he said. “I think it was just weak from not throwing in the off-season.”

Starting pitcher Ivan Montane, who hit Bakersfield’s Kyle Towner on Thursday with the first pitch thrown by a JetHawk, said that was far from his plan.

“I was just trying to throw an easy strike in there for the first pitch,” Montane said. “I thought they were going to stop the game and take the ball or something. But then they just threw it back to me.”

Even though he hit a home run in the opener Thursday, catcher Scot Sealy was not in the starting lineup Friday. Brundage stuck to his plan of splitting starts between Sealy and Dusty Wathan.

Sealy’s reaction: “How can I not be in the lineup, I’m leading the league in home runs?”

Not actually. Jermaine Swinton of the Stockton Ports hit two on Thursday.
