Beard, who will swim for the U.S. Olympic team this summer, got some tough competition in a high school meet Saturday. She battled with Santa Ana Valley’s Amber Wines in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Foothill Swim Games, coming from behind to win in a meet-record 1 minute 2.38 seconds. Beard also won the 200 individual medley in 2:06.37; 0.48 off Janet Evans’ meet record. “After all the pressure swimming she’s done in the last four or five months, this is a lot of fun for her,” Coach Scott Hinman said.
