Foli Foils Hancock With Key Blows in Oxnard’s 4-2 Win

Scott Foli had a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single, and Adam Springston earned the victory in relief as Oxnard College defeated Hancock, 4-2, in a Western State Conference baseball game Tuesday at Oxnard.

The victory improved Oxnard (28-6) to 19-2 in WSC play. The Condors entered the game atop the North Division with a two-game lead over Cuesta.

Foli’s fifth-inning fly ball snapped a 2-2 tie. Foli, who was two for three, drove in another run in the seventh.

Springston (2-0) replaced starter Rene Sanchez and pitched 4 2/3 innings. Art Bolen was two for three for the Condors.

Pierce 4, Mission 3--Mike Glendenning scored the game-winning run on Jimmy Landress’ sacrifice fly in the seventh inning of a WSC game at Pierce.

The Brahmas (25-10, 15-6) pulled into a first-place tie with Canyons in the South Division. Pierce and Canyons both have five games remaining.

Glendenning hit his 13th home run of the season, a two-run blast in the first. Harry Kenoi picked up his 11th save.

Bakersfield 14, Canyons 0--Jeremy Wedel pitched a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Renegades (22-17, 12-9) in a WSC game at Bakersfield.

Rick Nadeau had three hits for Canyons (20-17, 15-6).

Valley 6, Glendale 5--Chris Portugal’s triple scored Nathan Wrought in the sixth inning of a WSC game at Valley. Chris Butler had three hits and scored two runs for Valley (13-23, 9-12).

Westmont 3, Cal Lutheran 2--Matt Richter’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly drove in Scott McWherter and capped a three-run ninth inning for Westmont (19-15) in a nonconference game at UCLA. Cal Lutheran dropped to 25-8-1.

MEN’S TRACK

Foothill Conference prelims--Peter Matrai of Antelope Valley threw a personal best of 173 feet 7 inches in the hammer and teammate Charles Patterson threw the discus 138-10 in the meet at Antelope Valley College.

Antelope Valley’s Kenny Hopson ran 10.76 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.80 in the 200, and Verrick Dabney clocked 48.90 in the 400 and 21.93 in the 200.

The conference finals are Friday at Antelope Valley.
