Laguna Beach Outlasts Aliso Niguel

Although Aliso Niguel kept it close early, Laguna Beach pulled away to a 16-14, 15-7, 15-6 victory in a Pacific Coast League boys’ volleyball match Friday at Aliso Niguel.

Vladimir Andric had 20 kills--10 in the first game--for the Artists (11-1, 8-0 in league), who are ranked fifth in Orange County. Middle blocker James Kimball also gave Laguna Beach a lift in that game with four kills and two blocks.

Aliso Niguel is 11-5, 6-2.

In another Pacific Coast League match:

University 3, Laguna Hills 0--David Lin had 15 kills and Don Chen had 14 as visiting University won, 15-11, 15-4, 15-13.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 3, Santiago 0--Scott Ogilvie had six kills as La Quinta (12-2, 10-0) clinched the league title with a victory over Santiago (0-10), 15-6, 15-1, 15-8.

Bolsa Grande 3, Pacifica 1--Jeff Aichelman had 15 kills for visiting Bolsa Grande (11-5, 7-3), which won, 15-8, 6-15, 15-8, 15-12.

In the Empire League:

Valencia 3, Century 1--Kevin Allen had 15 kills as Valencia won, 15-0, 15-2, 9-15, 15-8. The victory keeps Valencia (14-2, 8-0) a match ahead of second-place Western.

Western 3, El Dorado 2--Western rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games to defeat El Dorado (4-4), 7-15, 16-14, 6-15, 15-13, 15-6. Steve Sieks had 18 kills for the Pioneers (12-2, 7-1).

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 3, Westminster 0--Matt Kraus had 14 kills to lead Tustin (9-4, 7-1) to a 15-3, 15-3, 15-3 victory.

Ocean View 3, Santa Ana 0--Glenn Tanner and Ted Norman each had nine kills in the 15-3, 15-4, 15-9 victory for Ocean View (9-4, 6-2).

Servite 3, Saddleback 1--Jason Cantor had 16 kills to lead Servite (9-4, 6-2) in a victory over Saddleback (2-6), 15-12, 13-15, 15-10, 15-8.

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 3, Orange Lutheran 0--Dan Harney, Chris Lum and Mike Higgins each had eight kills for host Brethren Christian (8-7, 4-4), which won, 15-9, 17-15, 15-2.

Calvary Chapel 3, Whittier Christian 1--Jason Mandall had 26 kills and Josh Lewis added 15 in the 15-1, 14-16, 15-10, 15-12 victory for Calvary Chapel (9-2, 8-0). Kevin Rausch had 53 assists.

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 3, El Toro 0--Trey Nelson had 12 kills for host Santa Margarita (15-1, 8-0), which won, 15-4, 15-8, 16-14.

Corona del Mar 3, Newport Harbor 0--Brian Coleman had 16 kills and Derek Newcomer had 42 assists to lead No. 8 Corona del Mar (8-4, 6-2) in the 15-8, 15-7, 15-2 victory.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Mission Viejo 1--Mike Tully had 18 kills for visiting Capistrano Valley, which won, 15-3, 15-10, 4-15, 15-6.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 3, Los Alamitos 0--Casey Brewer had 11 kills in a victory for Fountain Valley (7-7, 4-4), in a 15-5, 15-5, 15-6 victory.

Esperanza 3, Marina 0--Kris Welch had 12 kills and Justin Dalton had 42 assists for second-ranked Esperanza (12-2, 7-1), which won, 15-11, 15-6, 15-10.

Huntington Beach 3, Edison 1--Lyle Carlson had nine kills in a victory for Huntington Beach (13-1, 7-1). Edison dropped to 3-5 in league.
