Holmes Twins Deliver Key Hits in 7th Inning for Thousand Oaks, 4-3

Tyler Holmes’ single knocked in Ryan Lane with the winning run in the seventh inning Friday as Thousand Oaks High defeated Simi Valley, 4-3, in a Marmonte League baseball game at Thousand Oaks.

Earlier in the seventh, Holmes’ twin brother, Ryan, singled in Nick Smith with the tying run.

The victory moved the Lancers (14-9, 7-5 in league play) into a tie for third place in the league. The top three teams advance to the Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Simi Valley (13-10-1, 5-7) fell to a fifth-place tie with Newbury Park.

Simi Valley starter Bill Castonguay allowed three hits and two runs in six innings. He struck out two and walked one before being replaced by Chris Barbettini (0-1) in the seventh.

Thousand Oaks’ Santos Mummey (5-2) gave up three hits and struck out one.

Newbury Park 7, Westlake 6--The Panthers (11-10, 5-7) rallied with four runs in the seventh inning to edge the Warriors (11-9, 7-5) in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Jake Farrel’s sacrifice fly drove in Matt Cassaro with the winning run. Matt Riordan and Mike McHargue each had two hits and a run batted in for Westlake.

Camarillo 5, Channel Islands 2--Nathan Kaup (4-1) pitched a five-hitter, striking out three, walking two and allowing two unearned runs to pace the Scorpions (18-4, 9-3) in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo. Channel Islands fell to 12-12, 4-8.

Camarillo’s Rodell Desamparo led off the game with a home run and drove in two runs with a fifth-inning double.

Royal 7, Agoura 3--Matt Pitstick had two hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs for the Highlanders (21-2, 10-2) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura. Pitstick (6-1) also pitched a five-hitter.

Chris Cicuto had two hits for Agoura (6-16, 1-11), including a solo home run in the fourth.

Quartz Hill 8, Littlerock 2--Brian Garcia (5-0) pitched a five-hitter, striking out 11 and allowing one earned run for the Rebels (18-4, 8-0) in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.

Quartz Hill’s Brett May slugged a three-run home run in the third inning and Adam Boudreau had two hits and two RBIs.

Antelope Valley 16, Highland 4--Sean Douglass had four hits and three RBIs, and Kevin Barlow had three hits and three RBIs as the Antelopes (15-9, 6-2) breezed in a Golden League game at Antelope Valley.

Buena 7, Santa Barbara 2--Ricky Helland (8-0) allowed three hits and one earned run, striking out four and walking five for the visiting Bulldogs (15-6, 7-5) in a Channel League game.

Jerrod Hines had three hits, including a run-scoring triple, and scored twice for Buena. Helland had a run-scoring double.

Dos Pueblos 7, Oxnard 3--The Yellowjackets gave up seven unearned runs to the Chargers (13-8, 7-5) in a Channel League game at Oxnard.

Orlando Ibarra singled in Mark Valdivia, and Ruben Valenzuela hit a two-run double in the fifth for the Yellowjackets (2-17, 1-11).

Ventura 5, Rio Mesa 1--Freshman John Branch and Jason Watkins hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning for the Cougars (9-13, 5-7) in a Channel League game at Ventura.

John Winger (3-3) pitched a two-hitter, struck out eight and faced 24 batters. Four Cougars had two or more hits, including Watkins, Branch, Aaron Dixon and Marcial Marquez.

Canyon 7, Burbank 1--Rick Thomas (2-1) scattered seven hits, struck out nine and walked two for the Cowboys (6-15, 4-9) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Canyon’s Steve Lombardi hit a three-run home run in the first. Mike Lizarraga had three hits for the Bulldogs (9-12, 7-6), who scored an unearned run in the third.

Alemany 6, Notre Dame 5--Joe Melaragno (1-2) scattered eight hits, struck out five and walked five as Alemany (5-13, 3-7) survived a two-run, sixth-inning rally by the Knights (14-8, 5-5) and won a Mission League game at Alemany.

Alemany’s Bill Scott hit a solo home run in the third.

Crespi 12, Loyola 0--Brian Felten (6-1) pitched a five-hitter, striking out two and walking one, and allowed no earned runs for the Celts (17-7, 6-4) in a Mission League game at Crespi.

Christian Dempsey had two hits and three RBIs, and Chris Crawley had two hits and scored twice.

Moorpark 10, Nordhoff 1--Shane Coffey had three hits, four RBIs and two stolen bases as the Musketeers (10-10, 7-6) clinched a playoff berth with a Frontier League rout of the Rangers (5-15, 3-10) at Moorpark.

Santa Clara 6, Malibu 3--Johnny Chavez had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Saints (7-10, 5-8) in a Frontier League game at Malibu.

Andy Super pitched a seven-hitter and struck out two for Santa Clara.

Calabasas 14, Santa Paula 5--Josh Goldfield had four hits, including a home run, and five RBIs as the Coyotes (17-2-2, 12-0-1) clinched the Frontier League title and swept the three-game season series from the Cardinals (12-6-1, 8-4-1).

Paraclete 3, Bishop 1--Dan O’Gara allowed one unearned run on two hits for the visiting Spirits (10-8, 6-2) in a High Desert League game, striking out 15 and walking none. O’Gara had two hits, including a run-scoring double.

Providence 6, Avalon 2--John Klose and Brian Fay combined on a no-hitter for the Pioneers (11-8, 6-2) in a Liberty League game at Foy Park. Three Providence errors led to two unearned runs.

Klose (3-3) came within two outs of a complete game but was replaced after giving up a walk.
