Hoernig Sets County Mark in Pole Vault

Foothill’s Erika Hoernig set an Orange County record in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet 5 1/4 inches to win the event at the girls’ track and field Century League finals Friday at Rancho Santiago College.

Angela Allen led El Modena to the team title, winning the 100 meters (12.7 seconds) and 20-0 (25.9). The Vanguards finished with 132 points. Santa Ana Valley was second with 122 and Foothill third with 116.

El Modena also won the boys’ meet with 147 points. Villa Park was second with 97 and Orange was third with 82.

Orange’s Terrence Williams won the 200 (22.1) and 400 (48.7).

In the Orange League:

Mejia wins three events--Anaheim’s Patricio Mejia finished first in the 800 (2 minutes 1.84 seconds), 1,600 (4:29.28) and 3,200 (9:50.25) and teammate Reuben Droughns won the 100 (11.13) and long jump (21-0). In the girls’ meet, Brea Olinda’s Maika Nelson finished first in the 100 (12.5) and 200 (26.05) and teammate Sarah Bonilla won the 300 hurdles (47.35) and 100 hurdles (16.0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills and University win--Jon Binder’s mark of 41 feet 10 inches in the triple jump helped the Hawks to 149 points and the team title. Aliso Niguel was second with 137 and University was third with 99. In the girls’ meet, University edged Laguna Hills, 176-163. Allison Marquand won the 200 (2:19.6) for University.
