Park Resigns as Thousand Oaks Coach

Thousand Oaks High boys’ volleyball Coach James Park has resigned, citing family reasons.

Park, 32, coached the Lancers for six seasons and also coaches the Cal Lutheran women’s team and the Zuma Bay club team.

Park said he was not spending enough time with his wife, Kate, and 19-month-old daughter, Sarah. “I don’t like the fact that I come home and our kid is already sleeping,” he said. “We’re expecting our second child in December, and I’d like to be with family more than anything.”

Park told his team of his decision during a first-round playoff match at Santa Barbara. “It was as good a time as any,” said Park, whose Lancers lost in five games. “I was hoping it was one of those things that would get the kids fired up.”

Park, who led the Lancers to five consecutive playoff appearances, plans to remain a geometry teacher at Thousand Oaks.
