Osborne Hits, Pitches Fullerton to 12-0 Victory

Pitcher Kristy Osborne had four hits and two runs batted in as Fullerton hammered 17 hits to defeat West Valley, 12-0, in the first round of the community college softball playoffs Friday at Fremont. Osborne also pitched a four-hitter for the Hornets.

Fullerton plays top-ranked Palomar, a 4-3 winner over Solano, today in the winners’ bracket.

Cara Hatt was three for four for the Hornets (36-10) and teammate Kristy Bonwell had two hits and three RBIs.

Osborne put Fullerton ahead in the first inning with a two-run double that drove in Bonwell. One run is all she needed as Osborne held West Valley, giving up only two hits and no walks in the first five innings.

The Hornets scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Sacramento City 7, Saddleback 2--After giving up two runs in the first inning, Sacramento City’s Cheri Shinn was able to hold Saddleback (32-12) at bay. Shinn, named Northern California’s pitcher of the year, also scored two runs and stole a base.

Merced 4, Cypress 1--Merced (31-14) scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie. In the game, Cypress (47-15) stranded eight.
