Riordan Provides Punch in Doubleheader Sweep

Matt Riordan had a home run, a triple and a double and drove in six runs to help Westlake-Royal Oak sweep host Royal, 7-2 and 12-1, Saturday in a District 16 doubleheader.

Riordan’s sixth home run of the season came in the first game. He hit the double and the triple in the second game.

Matt Pitstick and Scott Christensen each had four hits for Westlake-Royal Oak (12-0, 11-0 in district play). Pitstick scored four runs and Christensen scored a run and drove in another.

Right-hander Jay Kenny (5-0) threw a four-hitter, struck out four and walked none for Westlake-Royal Oak in the first game. The losses were the first of the season for Royal (9-2).

Ventura 6-9, Thousand Oaks 4-5--Andy Super had four hits, including three doubles, for Ventura (7-5) in the second game of a District 16 doubleheader at St. Bonaventure Field in Ventura.

In the first game, Super singled home Jeremy Pierce in the fifth inning with the eventual winning run. Pierce, who played at Ventura College in the spring, was selected in the 24th round of the amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners earlier this month but has not signed.

In the doubleheader, Nick Smith had five hits and two runs batted in for Thousand Oaks (4-8).

Newbury Park 10, Moorpark 3--Justin Flame threw a six-hitter and Jory McEachern and Danny Greene each had two hits for host Newbury Park in a District 16 game. Flame (2-2) struck out six and walked one, McEachern had two RBIs and Greene scored twice for Newbury Park (3-10).

Taylor Slimak had two doubles and two RBIs for Moorpark (2-11).

Newhall-Saugus 6, Santa Clarita South 4--Kevin Hyde had two hits and drove in three runs for Newhall-Saugus (13-3) in a District 20 game at Canyon High.

Central Valley 3, Woodland Hills West 2--Vince Kolbe singled to score Kelvin Delgado with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth in a District 20 game at Cleveland High. Kolbe had four hits and two RBIs.

West Hills 6, Central Valley 3--Chris Martinez had two hits, including a triple, to lead West Hills (9-5) in a District 20 game at Cleveland High.

Chris Gray (4-1) scattered seven hits over six innings and struck out four for West Hills.

Catcher Casey Roth had two hits for Central Valley (10-2).

Tri-Cities 10, Antelope Valley South 6--Carlos Chavez was four for four, including two doubles, scored four runs, had the game-winning RBI in the eighth and stole two bases for Tri-Cities (7-8) in a District 20 game at Antelope Valley High.

Las Virgenes West 10, Burbank North 3--Jeff Gershon’s single broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the fourth inning in a District 20 game at Burbank High. Mike Falco and Ryan McCann each homered for Las Virgenes West (4-8).

Sunland-Tujunga 9-2, Panorama City 8-13--Marc Lindop was five for seven, including two doubles, and had three RBIs to help Sunland-Tujunga (7-5) split the District 20 doubleheader at Alemany.

North Hollywood West 11, Van Nuys South 1--Abraham Montiel and Ismael Rangsiyawong each had two hits as North Hollywood West (9-5) won a District 20 game at North Hollywood High.

Encino 7, Valley South 1--Tommy Salazar had three hits and an RBI for Encino (9-3) in a District 20 game at Valley College.

Valley North 16, North Hollywood East 3--Joe Tillmon highlighted Valley North’s attack with four hits including a grand slam and seven RBIs in a District 20 game at Franklin Field.

Valley North 3, San Fernando 1--David Sark and Micah Berger hit solo home runs in the fourth inning in a Division 20 game at Cleveland High.

Stuart Sellz (3-1) pitched a seven-hitter, striking out three and walking one in helping Valley North improve to 13-2.

Verdugo Hills 12, Van Nuys East 6--Jesus Osuna hit a grand slam during a 10-run fourth inning for Verdugo Hills (10-5) in a District 20 game at Notre Dame High.

Glendale 5, Van Nuys West 4--Jose Avila (1-3) threw a five-hitter and struck out six, but Van Nuys West (1-12) committed five errors in a District 20 game at Birmingham High.

Santa Clarita North 11-12, Antelope Valley North 10-13--Matt Creighton and Bryan Richardson each homered, doubled and drove in three runs for Antelope Valley North (5-7-1), which used a six-run sixth inning to win the second game of a District 20 doubleheader at Rosamond High.

In the first game, Chris Honaker scored in the 10th on a walk for Santa Clarita North (7-8). Nate Wright had four hits.
