Wildfire Put Out 100 Feet From Homes
A wildfire came within 100 feet of homes in the planned community of Jurupa Hills near Fontana before firefighters from San Bernardino and Riverside counties knocked out the blaze Saturday evening, officials said.
The fire burned 800 acres before it was contained by a crew of more than 150 firefighters, said John Roberts, spokesman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
“Once the sun went down we did a back-burning operation on the north side of the fire and everything went rather well,” Roberts said. “We’re just mopping it up now.”
Roberts said that the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
