Chatsworth Gets Rave Reviews, 41-0

Had this been opening night on Broadway, Chatsworth would have been a box-office hit while Reseda would have been canceled after one show.

But this was a high school football game and Chatsworth provided plenty of theatrics in a 41-0 victory.

The Chancellors, hoping to improve on a 2-8 record in 1995, rolled up 375 yards and dominated the game defensively.

The Regents, coming off an 11-3 season in which they won the City Section 3-A championship, committed five turnovers, six costly penalties and stalled three times inside the Chatsworth 20-yard line.

Chatsworth’s Travis Winn completed 12 of 17 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns.

“I was nervous coming in, but I was confident,” he said. “Everything blended together. We played great.”

Chatsworth played a near-perfect first half and led, 21-0.

Winn threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Nguyen to make it 7-0.

Reseda seemed on the verge of tying the game when it marched from its own 20 to the Chancellor seven on the ensuing drive. But quarterback Jamaal Washington threw a pass right into the chest of safety Reggie Lee for a touchback.

Chatworth went 80 yards the other way, Tramain Cullors scoring on a one-yard run to make it 14-0.

Another interception by Washington set up a 38-yard scoring pass play from Winn to LaRon Buckner to make it 21-0. Buckner was just getting started. He had 10 catches for 201 yards.

The Chancellors moved 63 yards early in the third quarter to make it 28-0, Winn connecting to Buckner on a 13-yard play.
