Back down? Not hardly.

Despite a back injury that limited him to one practice this week, St. Bonaventure High quarterback Teohua Sanchez rose to the occasion Friday night, passing for 282 yards and four touchdowns as the Seraphs routed Paraclete, 39-19, in a nonleague game.

Sanchez, a 6-foot, 177-pound senior, completed 24 of 27 pass attempts, including 20 of 22 for 218 yards in the first half.

Paraclete led, 13-6, after one quarter on touchdown runs of six and 56 yards by tailback Sal Iabichella. The senior posted 145 yards and three touchdowns in 17 carries.

But St. Bonaventure rallied to take a 20-13 halftime lead. Early in the second quarter, the Seraphs embarked on an 11-play, 71-yard drive capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez to tight end Jay Macias.

Paraclete ran only three plays on its ensuing possession before Iabichella fumbled for the second time and Brian Carr recovered.

Five plays later, Andre Pinedo scored on an 11-yard run. Sanchez threw to receiver Pepe Villasenor for the conversion and the Seraphs led the rest of the way.

Villasenor caught 13 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown. Also scoring touchdowns for St. Bonaventure were tight end Joe Byrum and receiver Bryce Johnson and 300-pound defensive lineman David Bernal, who lumbered 81 yards on a fumble return.
