Corona del Mar’s George Sumner tied an Orange County record when he caught five touchdown passes in the Sea Kings’ 54-0 victory over Garden Grove in a nonleague game Thursday night at Newport Harbor.

Sumner tied a record set by Rick Parma, who caught five touchdowns while playing for Kennedy in a game against Ontario Chaffey in 1975.

Sumner, who caught six passes for 154 yards, scored his first touchdown on a 65-yard pass from Mike McClellan. McClellan and Sumner then hooked up again in the first quarter on a 33-yard score. After Tom O’Meara scored on two touchdown runs and McClellan scrambled for another, Sumner caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from McClellan before halftime, giving the Sea Kings (2-0) a 40-0 lead.
