Jones Rushes for 333 Yards, Laguna Hills Wins Again

Apparently, as Mike Jones runs, so goes the Laguna Hills offense.

The Hawks finished with 372 yards and 333 of those were credited to tailback Jones, who played three quarters and carried the ball 30 times in a 36-7 romp over Rim of the World Friday before 1,500 at Mission Viejo High.

Jones and his blockers again provided the highlight film for Laguna Hills (3-0). In three games this season, Jones has 746 yards and is averaging eight yards a carry. His three scoring runs of three, 72, and three yards give him nine touchdowns on the season.

He did lose a fumble once early in the third quarter. However, the Laguna Hills defense played its best game of the season, limiting Rim of the World to just 170 total yards for the game.

When Jones didn’t have the ball, however, the Hawks offense sputtered. Their best drive came late in the opening quarter when they went 60 yards on 13 plays, capped by a three-yard touchdown run by Jones.

An electric 72-yard scoring run by Jones and 64-yard scoring pass from Cory Pardoe to Ryan Johnson with five seconds left in the first half opened a 21-0 lead for Laguna Hills.

The Fighting Scots (2-1) were limited to eight first downs, half of them on their final drive. In the first half, they got as close as the Hawks 20 on a 50-yard pass play, but the receiver was stripped of the ball and Nick Harvey recovered for the Hawks.

Rim of the World avoided the shutout with 3:02 remaining on a one-yard touchdown by Scott Whiteside following a Laguna Hills fumble at the Scots 5.
