El Monte Arroyo Easily Handles Century

Felipe Rivas scored three rushing touchdowns to lead visiting El Monte Arroyo to a 40-0 victory over Century Thursday night at Brea Olinda High School.

Rivas scored from one and three yards in the first half and added a 27-yard run in the third quarter to pace the Knights.

Century (1-3) threatened only once, late in the game, but a fumble on the Arroyo six stopped the drive.

Arroyo (3-1) also scored on three touchdown passes by Kenny Smith, who completed eight passes for 237 yards in the first half.

After two touchdown runs by Rivas, Smith hit Carlos Ramirez with a 49-yard scoring pass to give Arroyo a 20-0 lead. The Knights increased their lead to 26-0 when Smith connected with Sergio Perez with a 68-yard touchdown pass with 1 minute 55 seconds left in the second quarter.

Rivas scored from 27 yards in the third quarter and the Knights completed the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Ernie Udave in the fourth quarter.

Jose Caravez was the leading Century rusher with 30 yards. Century quarterback Cesar Perez completed eight of 16 passes for 73 yards.

Smith finished with 268 yards passing and Rivas rushed for 92 yards.
