Glenn Adriatico

SCHOOL: Burroughs

SPORT: Football

YEAR: Junior

SEASON AT A GLANCE: A sure-handed and elusive wide receiver, Adriatico finished third in the region in receptions last year and was selected to The Times’ All-Valley team. Adriatico (5-foot-9, 150 pounds) leads the area with nine touchdown receptions, is second with 622 yards and third with 35 catches. If he maintains his pace, Adriatico will surpass his 1995 totals--62 receptions, 913 yards and seven touchdowns--by the end of the regular season.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: He caught 12 passes for 216 yards and scored all three touchdowns in Burroughs’ 21-7 victory at Crescenta Valley. His scoring receptions of 32 and 57 yards gave the Indians a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. He added a 15-yard score in the third quarter. His efforts helped Burroughs (4-1) move to No. 8 in the Southern Section Division II rankings.

GIRLS

Candace Boller

SCHOOL: Hart

SPORT: Volleyball

YEAR: Senior

SEASON AT A GLANCE: Boller, who has committed to Loyola Marymount, has helped the Indians get an early jump in the Foothill League race. The 6-foot middle blocker leads the Indians (9-1, 3-0 in league) in kills and blocks--and in the rewriting of opponents’ game plans. “What she brings is a fear factor for the other team,” Coach Kevin Sathre said of Boller, who doubles as a forward on the basketball team and a high jumper during track season. “She’s playing very aggressive volleyball and her net game is unbelievable.”

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Boller had an exceptional week against last year’s Foothill League co-champions: Saugus and Canyon. She delivered 20 kills and eight blocks as Hart rallied from a 2-0 deficit and scored a five-game victory over Saugus. Boller had 13 kills--five of which helped close out the match--and four blocks in a sweep of Canyon.
