Westlake Beats Thousand Oaks’ Double-Team, 10-8

Jennifer Azevedo and Brittany Jensky scored the deciding point for Westlake High with a victory over Lyndsey Tadlock and Kelly Struyck and the Warriors edged Thousand Oaks, 10-8, on Thursday in a Marmonte League girls’ tennis match at Thousand Oaks.

Lancer Coach Dave Assorson moved his top two singles players to doubles in an effort to exploit the Warriors’ weakness in doubles. The Lancers (8-5, 5-3) won the other eight doubles points.

Helena Horak, Erin Smith and Katy Smith combined to win 54 of 61 games in a singles sweep for Westlake (9-2, 7-1). Horak has won 23 consecutive sets.

Harvard-Westlake 16, Alemany 2--Leila Nasseri swept three singles matches, losing just one game, while Amanda Countner and Jenny Park did the same in three doubles matches for the Wolverines (9-4, 6-1) in a Mission League match at Cal State Northridge.

Hart 13, Valencia 2--Jieun Jacobs swept her singles matches for the Indians (6-5, 5-1) in a Foothill League match at Valencia.

Bettina Heick of Valencia (5-8, 0-6) went 2-1 in singles, losing only to Jacobs.

Camarillo 17, Royal 1--The Scorpions (10-1, 8-0) swept through the Highlanders (3-10, 1-7) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.

Simi Valley 15, Agoura 5--The Pioneers (10-3, 5-3) swept nine doubles points as they surprised Agoura for the second time this season in a Marmonte League match.

San Marcos 13, Oxnard 5--Leslie Balta and Stefanie Schroeder, an exchange student from Germany, teamed for their fourth doubles sweep for the Yellowjackets (1-7, 0-7) in a Channel League defeat.

Granada Hills 6, Chatsworth 1--The Highlanders (8-0, 5-0) remained the Northwest Valley Conference’s only unbeaten team, sweeping in doubles for the eighth time this season.

No. 3 singles player Karen Fung remained undefeated with an 8-3 victory.

El Camino Real 4, Kennedy 3--Jessica Ohana upset Kathy Shim at No. 3 singles to give the Conquistadores (2-5, 2-3) consecutive Northwest Valley Conference victories for the first time in four seasons.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Thousand Oaks 16, Agoura 43; Thousand Oaks 17, Simi Valley 42; Agoura 27, Simi Valley 28--John Haskell of Thousand Oaks clocked a winning 16:34 over a three-mile course in Simi Valley as the Lancers (5-0, 5-0) swept the top three places and five of the top seven in the Marmonte League meet.

Oak Park 40, St. Bonaventure 41, Fillmore 54, Carpinteria 98--Morgan Harrelson was second and Steve Martin placed fifth for Oak Park in the second Tri-Valley League meet of the season.

Harrelson timed 14:40 and Martin clocked 15:07 over the 2 3/4-mile course at La Reina High as Oak Park (5-1) moved into a tie for first place with St. Bonaventure.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Foothill League Meet No. 2--Julie Harris finished first and Lauren Fleshman placed third for Canyon to pace the defending State Division I champion to victory at College of the Canyons.

Harris, 10th in the State championships last year, clocked 19:48 over the three-mile course to defeat defending league champion Breanne Schweitzer (19:54) of Saugus and Fleshman (20:09).

Pacific League Meet No. 2--Sonia Teymouri and Torrey Groves placed one-two to help Crescenta Valley take five of the top eight places at Arcadia Park.

Teymouri clocked 18:58 over the three-mile course and Groves timed 19:34 for the Falcons (10-0 in league meets).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Hart d. Valencia, 15-2, 15-4, 15-3--Candace Boller had nine kills and Emily Neeley had six aces as the Indians (10-1, 4-0) strengthened their hold on first in the Foothill League.

Harvard-Westlake d. Chaminade, 15-2, 15-6, 15-10--Nicole Carrico had 15 kills, Michelle Wong added 10 kills and Malaika Naulls added eight kills and seven blocks for the Wolverines (8-1, 4-0) in a Mission League match.

Westlake d. Thousand Oaks, 15-12, 15-3, 15-7--Courtney Miller had 12 kills and Brooke Rundle had 40 assists at Thousand Oaks as the Warriors (8-0, 8-0) retained first place in the Marmonte League.

Royal d. Camarillo, 15-5, 15-7, 15-5--Nikki Guerra had five kills and Teresa Russell had four blocks for the Highlanders (8-2, 7-1) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.

Notre Dame d. Louisville, 15-11, 15-8, 15-9--Kathryn Martin had 14 kills in 19 attempts for the Knights (8-2, 3-1) in a Mission League match at Louisville.

Hilda Osmanian added 26 assists and three aces.

Ventura d. Buena, 11-15, 15-5, 15-9, 15-8--Nicole Greathouse’s 16 kills were not enough for the Bulldogs (7-3, 6-2) in the Channel League match at Buena.

La Reina d. Fillmore, 15-0, 15-2, 15-11--Aimee Thompson had five aces for the Regents (12-0, 4-0) in a serving-dominated Tri-Valley League match against Fillmore (3-6, 0-4) at La Reina.

Thompson opened the first game by serving 10 straight points, while Alyssa Hain served 12 straight points in game two. Hain had four aces.

Providence d. Montclair Prep, 12-15, 15-13, 18-16, 4-15, 15-12--The Pioneers (10-2) overcame a 10-1 deficit in game three and scored the last three points in game five to win a 2 1/2-hour marathon at Montclair Prep.

Kennedy d. Granada Hills, 15-8, 15-8, 15-9--Stephanie Ong had 33 assists and Christine Thach added eight kills for the Golden Cougars (7-0, 4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy.

Chatsworth d. El Camino Real, 15-7, 15-8, 15-9--Jennifer Joseph had 14 kills, Shea Carson added nine and Pamela George had 37 assists for the Chancellors (5-3, 4-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.
