Artists Win Volleyball Tournament

Sixth-ranked Laguna Beach defeated Torrey Pines in five games to win the Del Mar Torrey Pines girls’ volleyball tournament Saturday.

The fifth game played out to a score of 25-23, giving Laguna Beach the 16-17, 15-6, 15-6, 11-15, 25-23 victory.

Cameron DeGues had 19 kills and Lizzy Belloni and Kelly Garner each had 15 for the Artists (13-1). Setter Carolyn Kittel was named tournament MVP and Belloni was named to the all-tournament team.

Dana Hills, ranked third in the county, finished fourth in the tournament.

In the North Orange County water polo tournament:

Edison 6, Fullerton 4--Brian Lanich scored three goals in a consolation game for Edison (3-13). Lanich also scored three goals in an earlier 17-8 victory over Whittier California.

The Chargers’ Kyle Tague scored six goals and Taylor Jones added five against California.

Trabuco Hills 7, Mission Viejo 3--Todd Valentine and Jared Hayman each scored twice as Trabuco Hills (10-11) defeated Mission Viejo in the fifth-place game.
