Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State will co-host the Big West Conference postseason baseball tournament in 1997 and 1998.

Long Beach’s Blair Field will be the primary site this coming season, with Titan Field the primary site in 1998, Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell said.

Fullerton and Long Beach will host first-round games at their fields each year, unless they play each other in the opening round. The rest of the games will be played at the primary site.

The field will expand from four to six teams for the 1997 tournament May 15-18. The tournament decides the conference’s automatic NCAA regional berth.

The conference regular season will be played in two divisions for the first time. Fullerton, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara will be in the South Division. Nevada, Pacific, New Mexico State and associate member Sacramento State are in the North Division.

Each team will play a 30-game conference schedule, including home-and-away series with teams in their division and one three-game series with teams in the other division.

The tournament will be made up of the two top teams in each division and the two teams with the next best regular-season conference records.
