Burroughs Cuts Canyon Off at Pass, 28-26

Kevin Posey batted down a two-point conversion pass attempt with 1 minute 8 seconds left to play as Burroughs High escaped with a 28-26 Foothill League victory over Canyon on Friday night in Burbank.

Canyon (2-5, 0-2 in league) had drawn within two points on a one-yard sneak by quarterback Kevin Hammer that capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive.

Canyon took a 20-14 lead into the fourth quarter before Burroughs running back Robert Barillas responded with touchdown runs of one and 38 yards. Barillas rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns in 18 carries.

Glenn Adriatico of Burroughs, the third-leading receiver in the region, was held to one reception for seven yards. But quarterback J.K. Scott completed 15 of 28 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown as Burroughs improved to 6-1, 2-0.

Canyon running back Jeff McKinley rushed for 223 yards in 33 carries.
