SCORECARD: COUNTY HIGHLIGHTS FROM WEEK 6

Share

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

JoAnn Gordon was in the stands again during Santa Ana’s football game Friday. Gordon has been in attendance at Saints games since 1946 and has missed just a “handful” during that 50-year span. The 1955 graduate is a teacher at the school.

She has seen better games. However, as Ocean View defeated Santa Ana, 36-0.

SLOW RETURN

Tight end Mike Buckingham returned to Edison’s lineup after missing three games with a pulled calf muscle. Buckingham, the Chargers’ leading receiver at the time of his injury, caught one pass for two yards in Edison’s 17-6 loss to second-ranked Esperanza.

THE WINNER IS . . .

The results are in. That is if you believe in preseason prognostications. All but one Golden West League football coach, when surveyed in August, gave Servite the nod when it came to winning their annual meeting with upstart Tustin. The lone dissenter was Westminster’s Stan Clark. He tabbed Tustin as the league favorite and said the Tillers would upend the Friars.

For the record, Servite won, 50-40, and remained undefeated in league play since the league’s inception three years ago.
