Lappin Directs Loara to 41-21 Win Over Katella

Archie Lappin passed for 222 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another as Loara defeated Katella, 41-21, in an Empire League game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

Lappin, a senior quarterback, completed 12 of 19 passes. Lappin had passed for 166 yards by halftime on nine of 14 completions.

Lappin was also sacked five times by the Katella defense.

Katella (2-6, 0-2) struck first when John Baldridge returned a Loara punt 59 yards for a touchdown. Baldridge completed 10 of 16 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

The Saxons (5-3, 2-1) scored on their next four possessions.

Lappin passed 11 yards to Nathan Robbins for a touchdown, tying the score at 7-7.

Lappin gave Loara a 14-7 lead with 42 seconds left in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run. Robbins then caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Lappin with 9:54 remaining in the first half.

Jose Moreno added a 35-yard field goal with 2:18 remaining in the half.

After a 34-yard field goal by Moreno gave Loara a 27-7 lead in the third quarter, John Duhon scored on a nine-yard run with 2:20 left in the quarter.

Lappin passed to Eddie Williams from 30 yards with 5:11 remaining in the game for Loara’s final touchdown.
