SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The new running back was on the run all right, but then so was the whole Valencia High football team.

J.K. Scott completed 22 of 33 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns to keep the Vikings on the run all night and lead Burroughs to a 42-13 Foothill League victory Friday at Canyon High.

Scott took command of the game by spreading the passes around to six different receivers, most frequently Glenn Adriatico.

Adriatico caught nine passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Brian Criscuolo caught seven passes for 144 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Cremarosa made three catches, including two for scores in a two-minute span in the third quarter. Cremarosa’s touchdown receptions turned a 14-7 edge into a 28-7 advantage.

The Indians (7-1, 3-0 in league play), who added 14 points in the fourth period, have won six consecutive games heading into a key matchup with Hart next week. Valencia dropped to 5-3, 1-2.

Also for the Indians, Robert Barillas rushed 18 times for 69 yards, including touchdown runs of one and three yards.

“We knew that we were going to move the ball on them,” Scott said. “I was on, pretty much on the whole game. The O-line was giving me years.”

Manuel White, a freshman running back just promoted to the varsity to replace injured Valencia standout Donavan Calhoun, played beyond his years. He gained 128 yards in 18 carries.

“It was different from the freshman team,” White said. “I did all right.”

Valencia Coach Brian Stiman thought White did better than that.

“Manuel played a marvelous game,” he said. “He did everything that he should have done. It was our other 21 players who didn’t step up. You could say we missed Donavan, but that’s no excuse.”

Valencia actually scored first, opening the game with a five-play drive, capped by Caleb Willis’ 21-yard touchdown run just two minutes into the game.

That edge did not last long, however. On its first possession, Burroughs drove 79 yards on nine plays, including Scott’s 12-yard scoring strike to Adriatico.

Scott completed five of six passes on the drive, including three to Criscuolo for 42 yards.

The Indians also scored in the final minute of the half after a 13-play, 65-yard drive capped by a one-yard scoring run by Barillas.
