CSUN Sweeps Portland State

Getty Dimitrova recorded 12 kills and Allwyn Fitzpatrick added nine as Cal State Northridge swept past Portland State, 15-4, 15-2, 15-10, in a Big Sky Conference women’s volleyball match Saturday at Northridge.

Dimitrova added six digs and four blocks and Fitzpatrick had nine digs and four blocks for the Matadors (15-9, 12-0 in conference).

Northridge got 38 assists, four kills and 11 digs from setter Heather Hofmans and Amy Gillis had 10 digs to go with five kills. Nancy Ma added seven kills.

Eavi Shovlin had nine kills, Bree Dennis added eight and Christy Orona had seven for Portland State (10-15, 2-10).

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 4, Occidental 1--Kim Holeman scored twice as the Regals collected four second-half goals to post their first undefeated and untied conference record since 1993 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.

Chayna Manning and Deanna Loque each added a goal after Occidental managed a scoreless tie at halftime.

Cal Lutheran (17-2, 12-0-0), which is 70-1-1 in six seasons of SCIAC play, hopes to receive an invitation today to the NCAA Division III West regional playoffs. The Regals are ranked 10th in the division.

Holeman’s goals, scored in a 5 1/2-minute span of the second half, broke a 1-1 tie.

Jocelyn Ferialdi made seven saves for Occidental (6-10-2, 5-6-1), which scored on its only shot by Renee Jack in the 65th minute.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 2, Redlands 0--Brian Collins and Jeff Smilen scored goals as the Kingsmen won an SCIAC playoff game at Thousand Oaks.

Collins scored his 18th goal on a rebound after a free kick by Sebastian Alvarado in the 10th minute, and Smilen converted with an assist from Jeff Van Fleet in the 58th minute.

The match was the first for Cal Lutheran (12-5, 8-0) in the round-robin mini-tournament.

The Kingsmen, seeded first, play Pomona-Pitzer at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cal Lutheran. Points are accumulated from the conference season and the tournament to determine conference seedings for NCAA West regional.

The Kingsmen outshot Redlands, 15-5. Eric Kenas made 12 saves for Redlands (5-9-1, 4-4). Ryan Kaufman made five for Cal Lutheran.

The Master’s 8, BYU-Hawaii 0--Bryan Lee and Lucas Principe each scored twice for the Mustangs (15-3-2) in a nonconference match at Newhall.
