Hart’s Jacobs Climbs to Top of Foothill League, 6-0, 6-3

Freshman Jieun Jacobs of Hart High won the Foothill League girls’ tennis title with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Bettina Heick of Valencia in Thursday’s final at Cal State Northridge.

Jacobs, who was 30-0 in league play during the regular season, was top-seeded. She defeated teammate Bethanie Campbell, 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Shaland Romero and Christina Irinco of Burroughs defeated Audrey Kiok and Chantal Pershing of Burbank, 6-4, 6-1, to win their second consecutive doubles title.

Pacific League Tournament--Michelle Rowan and Michelle Greco of Crescenta Valley won their third consecutive doubles title, defeating Shirley Poon and Margaret Yao of Arcadia in the final, 6-1, 6-2.

An all-Crescenta Valley final in the singles tournament was suspended because of darkness with Heather Flanagan leading Nandita Raghavan, 7-6 (7-1), 2-2. They will finish today.

Rio Mesa 11, San Marcos 7--Nos. 1 and 2 singles players Zuzana Stunova and Veronica Reynosa each surrendered only one game while sweeping their sets for the Spartans (12-5, 8-4) in a Channel League match at San Marcos.

Camarillo 16, Simi Valley 2--Annie Doud and Amie Hull swept their three singles matches for the Scorpions (16-1, 14-0) in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley (15-5, 9-5).

Westlake 14, Channel Islands 4--Helena Horak and Jennifer Azevedo each won three sets by 6-0 scores at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Warriors (16-4, 12-2) in a Marmonte League match at North Ranch Country Club.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 10, Louisville 8--The Tologs finished the regular season by upsetting the Mission League’s third-place team.

Hilary Warner and Kelley Turk and Karen Stewart and Piper Wood swept their sets at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.

Flintridge (6-13, 6-3) started 0-12 before winning six of seven matches to finish the season.

HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley 10, Glendale 4--Neil Reynolds and Kenny Carpenter each scored four goals for the Falcons (17-8, 7-0) in the Pacific League championship game at Arcadia High.

Romeo Khachikyan had two goals for Glendale.

Buena 18, Oxnard 9--The Bulldogs (15-10, 8-2) finished in a three-way tie for first place in the Channel League behind James Hoover’s six goals at Oxnard.

Buena tied with Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos, which both won on Thursday.

The three teams will have a coin flip today to determine seedings for the playoffs.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Pacific League finals--David Lopez, Isabel Casillas and Jamal Balouch finished one-two-three to pace Hoover to a 22-point total and its third consecutive title at Crescenta Valley Park.

Lopez, who won the team sweepstakes race in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Oct. 26, clocked 15:45 over the three-mile course, with Casillas at 16:06 and Balouch at 16:19.

Channel League finals--Scott Johnsen and Ronald Almaguer placed first and third to pace Rio Mesa to a 48-65 victory over Buena at College Park.

The Spartans won their first league title since 1989.

Northwest Valley Conference finals--Jose Lorenzo and Rene Acevedo of Birmingham placed first and second in the Braves’ runaway victory at Pierce College.

Lorenzo and Acevedo clocked 16:17 and 16:31 over the three-mile course as the Braves took six of the top eight places to total 21 points. Taft was second with 71 points.

Valley Pac-8 Conference finals--Ali Benmohamed of Monroe won the race with a career-best of 15:23 over the three-mile course at Pierce College, but North Hollywood placed four runners among the top seven finishers to win the team title.

Paul Muite and Anthony Gavino finished second and third with times of 15:36 and 16:15 to pace North Hollywood to a 40-71 victory over runner-up Van Nuys.

Frontier League finals--Nordhoff’s Dusty Herman and Victor Ochoa placed first and second with times of 15:49 and 16:11 over the three-mile course at Lake Casitas, but Moorpark placed five runners among the top 10 finishers to edge the Rangers, 34-36.

Jared Sickman (16:29) and Jose Amezcua (16:43) placed fourth and fifth for Moorpark, which finished a point behind Nordhoff in the overall league standings.

Tri-Valley League finals--St. Bonaventure’s Matthew Torres and Fritz Knoll placed first and second with times of 15:40 and 15:55 over the three-mile course at Fillmore High, which took five of the top nine places to win the meet with 33 points.

Martin Arredondo and Hector Lizarraga finished fourth (16:30) and fifth (16:31) for Fillmore, which tied second-place St. Bonaventure for the overall league title.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Channel League finals--Ventura, paced by individual winner Alyson MacIntosh, swept the top three places and four of the top five to win at College Park.

MacIntosh, who won the Ventura County title last week, clocked 18:20 over the three-mile course to pace the Cougars to a 24-51 victory over second-place Dos Pueblos.

Ventura shared the league title with Dos Pueblos and snapped Buena’s league title streak at 13.

Northwest Valley Conference finals--Bree Akesson of Kennedy posted her sixth victory in seven races this season and defending City Section champion Birmingham edged El Camino Real, 49-58, for the team title at Pierce College.

Pacific League finals--Sonia Teymouri and Melissa Shing placed first and second as Crescenta Valley romped to its third consecutive league title at Crescenta Valley Park.

Frontier League finals--Elaine Canchola and Bridie Hatch of Nordhoff placed first and second to help the Rangers take five of the top six places at Lake Casitas.

Canchola, defending State Division III champion, clocked 18:44 over the three-mile course and Hatch timed 19:42 as the defending state champions totaled 18 points. Kerri Moran finished third in 19:55 for runner-up Moorpark.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge d. Weber State, 15-6, 15-8, 15-8--The Matadors (17-9, 13-0) continued to dominate Big Sky Conference play by holding the Wildcats (4-23, 4-9) to a .110 hitting percentage at Northridge.

Getty Dimitova had 18 kills, six blocks and 11 digs. Nancy Ma added 13 kills and 11 digs.

Cal Lutheran d. Westmont, 15-10, 15-11, 15-7--Tracy Little had 15 kills, 20 digs and five aces, and Jennifer Pappas had 13 digs for the Regals (20-3) in a nonconference match at Westmont.

Katie Wilson had 12 kills and Kendall Teague had 19 digs for Westmont (16-15).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Carpinteria d. La Reina, 7-15, 15-13, 15-3, 16-14--Nicole Olmstead had 13 kills and Heather Olmstead added nine kills as the Warriors (15-3, 8-2) ended La Reina’s 53-match Tri-Valley League winning streak at Carpinteria.

La Reina finished the regular season with a record of 17-1, 9-1 in league.

The Regents lost a league match for the first time in five years.

Westlake d. Channel Islands, 15-8, 15-6, 15-1--Bridgett Tichauer had 12 kills and Courtney Miller added eight kills and the Warriors (16-2, 14-0) closed out a perfect Marmonte League season.

L.A. Baptist d. Vasquez, 15-3, 15-1, 15-9--Tricia Stanton had 10 kills for the Knights (14-2, 9-1), who clinched a share of their third consecutive Alpha League title at Vasquez.

Highland d. Antelope Valley, 15-2, 15-6, 12-15, 15-3--Amber Stevens had 13 consecutive service points in the fourth game and the Golden League-champion Bulldogs (10-4, 8-0) completed their first undefeated league season.

Viewpoint d. South Bay Lutheran, 15-1, 15-3, 15-9--Lauren Campbell had 11 kills and the Patriots (16-1, 10-0) won their 26th consecutive Heritage League match at South Bay Lutheran.

Simi Valley d. Camarillo, 13-15, 15-8, 15-7, 15-10--Summer Page had 12 kills and 19 digs, and Jensa Metcalf added 11 kills and 14 assists for Simi Valley (4-11, 4-10) in a Marmonte League match.

Saugus d. Canyon, 14-16, 15-9, 15-11, 15-13--Lauren McCartin had 25 kills for the Centurions (10-4, 7-3) in a Foothill League match at Canyon.

Littlerock d. Palmdale, 15-5, 15-5, 15-10--Carrie Miller had 12 kills in a Golden League match at Littlerock.

Crystal Trumble added 11 kills for the Lobos (8-7, 5-3), who clinched second place, their best-ever finish.

Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-5, 15-8, 15-8--Carrie Swartz had 16 kills, Nikkie Guerra added 10 kills, and setter Maryl Mashburn had 29 assists as the Highlanders (13-3, 12-2) finished second in the Marmonte League.
