Nemeth’s Four Touchdowns Spark Aliso Niguel’s Victory

Senior Scott Nemeth scored four touchdowns to lead Aliso Niguel, the eighth-ranked team in the county, to a 52-0 Pacific Coast League victory over University Thursday night at Irvine High.

Aliso Niguel, which shares the league lead with Laguna Hills, scored 17 points in the first five minutes to take a commanding lead against University (3-6, 1-3).

Nemeth led Aliso Niguel (9-0, 4-0) rushing for 105 yards in 11 carries. He also had three receptions for 60 yards.

The Wolverines scored on their first possession when quarterback Wes Thomas connected with Nemeth on a 28-yard touchdown pass. Thomas then ran for a two-point conversion to give Aliso Niguel an 8-0 lead with 8 minutes 33 seconds left in the first quarter.

Aliso Niguel’s John Hefty intercepted a pass by Damian DeFeo on University’s next drive and returned the ball 24 yards to the Trojan two-yard line.

Nemeth then scored from two yards to give the Wolverines a 15-0 lead with 8:10 left in the first.

Aliso Niguel then recorded a safety. After failing to move the ball, University attempted to punt, but the center’s snap went 20 yards over the head of Blair Illingworth, who recovered the ball in the end zone.

The safety gave the Wolverines a 17-0 lead with 7:07 left in the first quarter.
