Joel Tudor, Ted Robins and Josh Baxter head an international field of surfers competing in the Pro-Am Longboard Championships today and Sunday at California Street beach in Ventura. Heats begin at 6:45 a.m.

The Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park high school football teams will kick off preparation for their Marmonte League showdown next Friday night by having breakfast together today.

In an event sponsored by the booster clubs of both schools, players, cheerleaders and coaching staffs will eat pancakes at the Sizzler restaurant at 401 North Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.

Fans and family members are invited to the breakfast, which begins at 9 a.m.

The Master’s College plays host to Westminster College today in the opening round of the NAIA Far West Region Independent men’s soccer playoffs.

Master’s (15-3-2), top-seeded in the four-team tournament, plays Westminster (9-8-3) at 10 a.m. Hawaii Pacific (15-1-1) meets Dominican (13-6-2) in the other semifinal.

The regional championship will be played at Master’s on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The winner advances to the Far West Region Championship on Nov. 16 at a site to be determined.

The Far West Region champion earns a berth in the 12-team national tournament, Nov. 25-30 in Birmingham, Ala.

Other college events in the region today include:

Women’s volleyball: At 7 p.m., Loyola Marymount at Pepperdine, Sacramento State at Cal State Northridge.
