Juwan Howard was arrested early Monday and charged with drunken driving after his 1995 Mercedes was spotted speeding down a Washington street.

The Washington Bullet forward had left a nightclub when the arrest was made at 3:45 a.m., said District of Columbia police spokesman Sgt. Joe Gentile. Howard was released on his own recognizance and a Dec. 6 court date was set.

“This is truly a big embarrassment for me personally and for my family and also for the Bullets’ organization,” Howard said after practice.

Howard is known for his charitable work around the Washington area during his two years with the Bullets.

The Bullets did receive some good news Monday. Center Gheorge Muresan will make his season debut tonight against the Detroit Pistons, the team said.

The 7-foot-7 Romanian sat out the first five games of the season because of a strained hip.
