Top-Seeded Dana Hills Slams Sunny Hills
Top-seeded Dana Hills advanced to Tuesday’s quarterfinals with a 17-1 second-round victory over visiting Sunny Hills in a Division II girls’ tennis match Saturday.
Dana Hills (18-2) was led in doubles by Amy Tranckino and Christi Manning, who swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-3. Also in doubles, Kate Romm and Janae Wilson-Hayden swept, 6-0, 6-0, 7-5. Dana Hills will play University Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
In other Division II matches:
Mater Dei 18, Whittier La Serna 0--Melissa Esmero swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, in the second-round victory for Mater Dei (15-5). Sarah Luckey also swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, for the Monarchs, who next play Downey Warren.
University 14, Marina 4--Annie Pham swept in singles, 7-6, 6-0, 6-4, for University (14-4). The Trojans play Dana Hills in the quarterfinals.
In Division I matches:
Corona del Mar 17, Apple Valley 1--Nina Vaughan swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Corona del Mar. Teammate Nadia Vaughan also swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for the Sea Kings (18-3).
Los Alamitos 17, Santa Monica 1--Sala Satele swept in singles, 6-0, 6-1, 7-5, in a second-round victory for Los Alamitos. Shauna Brodsky also swept, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3, for the Griffins (14-5).
Los Alamitos next plays Palos Verdes Peninsula.
Newport Harbor 18, Upland 0--Senior Katie Canright of Newport Harbor swept in singles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0. Newport Harbor (20-2) plays Diamond Bar Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
In a Division V match:
Laguna Beach 18, Brethren Christian 0--The top-seeded Artists (13-8) lost only 13 games in the second-round victory. In singles, Kim Woodhouse didn’t lose a game in sweeping, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. Laguna Beach next plays Claremont Webb.
