Orange Lutheran overpowered its opponents in the regular season and was rewarded by being seeded second in the Southern Section Division X playoffs.

So opening the playoffs against Orange Lutheran wasn’t the best-case scenario for Moorpark, which needed an at-large bid to qualify.

Orange Lutheran beat Moorpark, 35-0, Friday night at Brea Olinda to advance to the second round. Orange Lutheran (10-1) will play Long Beach St. Anthony.

“I thought our effort level was good and I was pleased with our defense,” Orange Lutheran Coach Jim Kunau said. “Our players didn’t allow the [muddy field] to affect their play.”

Receiver Mike Crawford paced the offense with six catches for 98 yards and three touchdowns. He caught touchdown passes of 15 and 23 yards in the second quarter from quarterback Nick Odenath, helping Orange Lutheran take a 14-0 halftime lead.

“He’s the best receiver in our school’s history,” Kunau said.

Odenath completed eight of 15 passes for 153 yards and the three touchdowns to Crawford.

Orange Lutheran’s defense limited Moorpark to 112 yards total offense.

Moorpark finished the season 4-7.
