CANOGA PARK — The eligibility of Canoga Park High basketball players David Redmond, Anthony Ellison and Jeff Turner will be determined on Thursday at a City Section Rules Committee meeting.
Canoga Park officials have known since the start of the semester that Ellison, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, might have surpassed the allowable eight semesters to participate in high school athletics.
Likewise, school officials have been waiting for documentation from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that Turner and his aunt, who is his guardian, were displaced by the 1994 earthquake.
Turner, a 6-4 senior swingman, said he attended Canoga Park until he transferred to Van Nuys after the earthquake. Two months later, he moved to Atlanta.
Redmond’s eligibility came into question when an anonymous fax printed on Birmingham High letterhead was received by Canoga Park administrators last week.
Redmond, a 6-8 senior forward, transferred from Birmingham last spring. He attended Birmingham under open enrollment, while living in Reseda. Turner must prove he lives with his mother in the Canoga Park district.
Canoga Park, ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times, beat Chatsworth, 85-80, on Monday without the three starters. Canoga Park will play in a tournament in Fresno Thursday through Saturday.
