Santa Margarita (11-1) vs. Tustin (11-1)
7:30 P.M. SATURDAY
TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL
Tustin had 570 yards in last week’s 60-45 victory over Loara. Santa Margarita is coming off a 38-0 victory over Valencia, which had four shutouts. The Eagles were without Billy Newman (hamstring), the county’s third-leading rusher. Santa Margarita is more balanced on offense, and John Minardi’s 22.9 yards per catch is the best among any receiver with at least 30 receptions. Tustin may be one-dimensional, but what a dimension: three 1,000-yard rushers. Still, the outcome of this Division V semifinal rests on how hard the Tillers (with six two-way starters) work on defense.
