El Toro Rally In Fourth Quarter Tops Fullerton

El Toro rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Fullerton, 56-52, in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Tuesday at Fullerton.

Mark Wulfemeyer scored 27 points, including four three-pointers, and Fabrizio Mendiola had 15 points for El Toro (3-0), which outscored Fullerton, 15-10, in the last quarter.

In other nonleague games:

Canyon 48, Los Amigos 43--Ali Goodman had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Canyon (1-0).

Huntington Beach 68, Downey Warren 53--Chris Basich scored 23 points for Huntington Beach (1-0).

La Habra 54, Whittier 50--Josh Fischer and Damon Tristan each scored 12 points for La Habra (1-0), which led by three at the half.

Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe 59, Buena Park 52--Ruben Gasso scored 15 points for Buena Park (1-1).

Trabuco Hills 66, Fountain Valley 48--Jerome Lewis had 17 points to lead Trabuco Hills. Chris Majors had 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Trabuco Hills (1-1).

In the Brea Olinda Tournament:

Calvary Chapel 87, Paramount 42--Joe Ortiz led Calvary Chapel (1-0), scoring 15 of his 24 points from three-point range.

Garid Beeler had 21 points, 15 from three-point range, in the victory.

Whittier La Serna 58, Esperanza 56--Esperanza (0-1), ranked fifth in the county, was outscored, 15-4, in the third quarter and fell behind by six in pool-play action.

In the Bolsa Grande boys’ basketball tournament:

Marina 64, Western 45--Scott Rivera scored 17 points and Scot Austin had 15 for Marina (2-0).

Magnolia 88, Flintridge Prep 43--Zamiro Bennem scored 22 points for Magnolia (2-0).

In the Daily Pilot Tournament:

Estancia 61, San Bernardino 36--Sam Nelson scored 20 points and Ryan Simpson had 16 for Estancia (1-0), which outscored San Bernardino, 22-2, in the second quarter to take a 20-point halftime lead.

Los Alamitos 72, Troy 53--Junior forward Matt Komer led Los Alamitos (1-0) to a first-round victory, scoring 24 points and collecting 11 rebounds.

In the Diablo Inferno boys’ basketball tournament:

Santa Ana Valley 66, Costa Mesa 44--Seth Roblee had 20 points and five steals and Tim Werdel scored 16 points for Santa Ana Valley (1-1).

Tustin 69, Aliso Viejo 53--Ryan Earl scored 22 points and Rahiem Hobbs had 20 for Tustin (3-0). Jeff Munsell scored 25 points for Aliso Viejo (1-1) in the loss.

In the Elks Classic Tournament:

Saddleback 66, Rancho Alamitos 40--Terrel Foster scored 13 points for Saddleback (1-1) in the victory.

In the National Sports Grill Tournament:

Woodbridge 69, Lakewood 38--Woodbridge had a 41-13 lead at the end of the first half. Chris Burgess had 20 points to lead the Warriors (2-0) in a second-round game.

Sonora 66, El Modena 48--Ben Jones scored 23 points as Sonora defeated El Modena (1-1) in the quarterfinals.

Teammate Derek Hilliard had 21 points and six rebounds.

Loara 57, Savanna 37--Loara shut down Savanna in the second half, allowing only 18 points in the last two quarters.

Obaid Popal had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Loara in the consolation game.

Pacifica 67, Irvine 55--Senior guard Brad Mastros led Pacifica with 16 points, including four three-pointers, in the consolation game.

Senior forward Scott Hanson had 16 points for Irvine (0-2). Pacifica is 1-1.
