Fullerton Signs 12 Baseball Players for the 1998 Season

Cal State Fullerton has signed 12 baseball players, five of them pitchers, to national letters to play beginning in the 1998 season.

The pitchers signed include right-handers Jordan DeJong of El Dorado High, Kirk Saarloos of Cerritos Valley Christian and Jason Westemeir of Mission Hills Alemany. The two left-handers are George Carralejo of Kennedy High and Jon Smith of Perris High.

Other players signed include outfielders Brett Caradonna of San Diego El Capitan, Greg Jacobs of Cypress College and Mike Tomarelli of Canyon High. The Titans signed two first basemen, Grant Wilson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Horizon High and Kevin Duck of Rancho Santiago College.

Other signees are third baseman Ryan Lehr of San Diego Grossmont High and infielder Chad Olzanski of San Diego San Pasqual High.

Nevada wide receiver Geoffery Noisy, a sophomore from Irvine, is a first-team selection to the Big West’s all-conference football team.

Noisy led the conference in receiving yards with an average of 130.5 per game on 98 catches for 1,435 yards and nine touchdowns. Nevada, which shared the conference title with Utah State, will play Dec. 19 in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Utah State’s Mark Rommel, a junior offensive lineman from Orange, was a second-team selection.

Karine Inoue, a senior forward for Laguna Hills, and Maresa Zanetti, a senior midfielder for Santa Margarita, have orally committed to attend California next fall. Pa’tra Glavin, a senior defender for Santa Margarita, orally committed to University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Inoue, a two-time most valuable player selection in the Pacific Coast League, broke her foot recently and will sit out much of the Hawks’ season. She is expected to return midway through league play to help Laguna Hills defend its league title.

Zanetti was a second-team all Sea View League selection last season. Glavin is expected to be back at full strength this season after two knee surgeries.
