DIVISION II

* HIGHLAND (9-3) vs. AYALA (10-2)

At Citrus College, Glendora, 7:30 p.m.

Either the Southern Section seeding process is not an exact science or Highland and Ayala were supposed to lose last week. Highland, after winning its first playoff game in school history in the first round, upset second-seeded Paramount, 31-18. Ayala staged a last-minute rally to surprise No. 3 Hart, 22-19. The Golden League tri-champion Bulldogs are still looking for a complete game after a big first half against Santa Monica and a big second half against Paramount. Ayala’s Matt Johnson has rushed for 1,396 yards and 12 touchdowns, and Mike Frost has passed for 1,871 yards and 19 touchdowns. His last throw beat Hart with 38 seconds left. But Highland has been resilient, winning by 14 points last week while allowing 371 yards rushing. Camy Smith has passed for 1,702 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Brian Floyd, who has 10 receptions for 295 yards, and Will Demps, who has 43 for 628, each has six touchdowns catches. Demps leads the region in interceptions.
