Stovall, Burgess Lead Woodbridge Past El Dorado, 77-52

William Stovall led Woodbridge’s third-quarter charge with 11 of his 18 points as the Warriors beat El Dorado, 77-52, in one semifinal of the National Sports Grill boys’ basketball tournament Friday at Cypress high.

Chris Burgess had eight of his game-high 23 and Brandon Beeson had seven of his 21 in the third quarter.

Woodbridge led, 32-26, at the half then outscored Ed Dorado, 27-12, in the third quarter. Woodbridge meets Sonora in the championship game at 8:15 tonight at Loara High.

In another tournament game:

Irvine 59, La Mirada 41--Scott Hanson scored 15 points for Irvine (1-2) in the consolation game.

In the championship game of the Diablo Inferno:

El Toro 73, Tustin 49--Fabrizio Mendiola was named tournament MVP after he scored 16 points to lead El Toro (5-0) to the championship. Teammate Mark Wulfemeyer scored a game-high 19 points and was named to the all-tournament team, along with Josh Rupprecht who scored 11.

In the Bolsa Grande boys’ tournament:

Marina 60, Laguna Beach 39--Peter Yoon led Marina (4-0) with 16 points in the championship game. Marina center Pardeep Brar added 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

In the Daily Pilot tournament:

Los Alamitos 37, Newport Harbor 28--Matt Komer had 14 points and eight rebounds for Los Alamitos (3-0), which plays West Torrance in the championship game at 7 tonight at Newport Harbor High.

In the Woodbirdge girls’ basketball tournament:

Laguna Hills 63, Mater Dei 38--Whitney Houser had 21 points and nine rebounds for Laguna Hills in a pool-play game. Laguna Hills took control by outscoring the Monarchs, 20-2, in the second quarter. The Hawks will meet Woodbridge, a 70-38 winner over Perris, tonight in the championship game.

In the Carson City tournament:

Marina 52, Reno (Nev.) McQueen 50--Karyn Fierst made a 15-footer with two seconds remaining to break a 50-50 tie for Marina (3-0) in a semifinal victory.
