Golden West Sweeps Foothill in Volleyball

Tina Bowman and Lorna Little, both sophomore outside hitters, each had nine kills for Golden West in a three-game sweep over Foothill in the first round of the state women’s volleyball tournament Friday at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.
Golden West won, 15-1, 15-1, 15-4.
Golden West (22-1) advanced to the winner’s bracket semifinal against San Joaquin Delta College today at noon.
Fullerton and Long Beach, which is undefeated this season and the top-ranked team in the state, play in the other semifinal.
The winners move on to the winner’s bracket final at 7 p.m.
Golden West has won three consecutive state titles and five of the last six.
The double-elimination tournament concludes Sunday.
In the Orange Coast men’s basketball tournament:
Irvine Valley 77, Victor Valley 76--Darly Todd scored a team-high 19 before fouling out with 4 minutes 39 seconds to play as Irvine Valley hung on. The Lasers (4-3) led, 41-28, at the half.
J.C. Timmons added 18 for Irvine Valley, which moved into the championship game against Long Beach tonight at 7. Long Beach beat Victor Valley, 95-91, in the other semifinal.
Victor Valley (5-5) plays Imperial Valley for third place at 5 p.m.
Orange Coast 90, West Los Angeles 63--Adrian Reyes, a sophomore guard, tied an Orange Coast single-game record with eight three-pointers in one consolation game. Reyes made his eight three-pointers in a row and was eight of 13 on three-pointers for the game. He was also 11 of 19 from the field overall and had a game-high 34 points.
Brian Fracalosy, another sophomore guard, had 15 points along with Jovan Robinson for Orange Coast (4-4), which meets Golden West in the consolation championship today at 3 p.m.
Golden West 72, El Camino 60--Ray Jimmerson scored 27 and Jacy Armbruster added 21 for the Rustlers (2-3), who shot 60% (25 of 42) from the field.
El Camino is 0-10.
In the Grossmont tournament:
Southwestern 75, Rancho Santiago 51--Mark Saukkola had 17 points and Lohnnie Tape 14 for Rancho Santiago (5-2) in one semifinal. Southwestern (8-1) outscored Rancho Santiago, 45-22, in the second half.
In the Cuesta tournament:
Orange Coast 64, Cosumnes River 52--Dianne Pulido led Orange Coast (8-1), scoring 24 points in the semifinal victory. The Pirates move to the title game tonight at 6.
