Steward, Patterson Pace Edison to the Championship

Shuana Steward and Cristina Patterson combined for 25 points to help Edison defeat Huntington Beach in the championship game of the Estancia girls’ basketball tournament Friday at Estancia High.

Steward, selected tournament most valuable player, had 13 points. Patterson, a sophomore, had 12. Edison is 5-0.

Phouangmaly Pravongviengkham had 26 points to lead Huntington Beach (3-1).

In the third-place game:

Century 51, Estancia 25--Aprile Powell had 14 points and nine rebounds for Century (7-2). Alli Napier had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Both Powell and Napier made all-tournament.

In consolations games:

Dana Hills 40, Saddleback 29--Jeri Howard scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds in a consolation victory for Dana Hills. Jenhwyfar Carlisle scored 13 points for the Dolphins (1-6).

Troy 45, Irvine 30--Heidi Hardeman had 20 points to lead Troy in the consolation game. Jami Allred had 12 for Irvine.

In the Brea Olinda Tournament:

Brea Olinda 64, Riverside North 38--Rochelle Anthony scored 22 points and Marisa Bradley had 15 to lead top-ranked Brea Olinda (3-0) into today’s championship game.

In the Downey Calvary Chapel Tournament:

Cerritos Whitney 32, St. Margaret’s 24--Megan Canright led St. Margaret’s (1-5) with seven points in the championship game.

Canoga Park Faith Baptist 42, Liberty Christian 26--Felicia Jao scored seven points for Liberty Christian (4-2) in the third-place game. Jao made all-tournament.

In the South Coast Tournament:

San Bernardino 66, University 56--Lacresha Flannigan and Briana McIntosh each scored 24 points in a semifinal victory for San Bernardino (8-0). The Cardinals play Vista in the championship at 7:30 tonight.

Monique Matthews scored 22 points and tied a school record with 21 rebounds for University (2-1). University plays Esperanza for third place at 5:45 p.m.

Santa Margarita 54, Thousand Oaks 43--Carly Willard had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Santa Margarita (4-1), which led at halftime of the consolation game, 27-15.

In the Cypress tournament:

Katella 62, Bell Gardens 60 (OT)--Rachel Angulo scored 17 points and had nine rebounds and Catherine Painter got 15 points and 16 rebounds for Katella.

In nonleague games:

Los Alamitos 42, Long Beach Poly 39--Kristin Geoffroy scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds in a nonleague victory for Los Alamitos (4-1). Christa Ellis had 10 rebounds and eight points for the Griffins.
