Nordhoff Girls Save Best for Last in Tournament

Erin Barker had 14 rebounds and 15 points, six coming in the decisive fourth quarter, to help Nordhoff High beat Fillmore, 52-45, Saturday in the championship game of the Nordhoff girls’ basketball tournament.

Laura Underwood scored four of her six points during a 14-2 fourth-quarter run by the Rangers (8-0).

Nell Becker added 17 points and six assists for Nordhoff.

Liz Rosenbald had 19 points for Fillmore (6-1), and April Kozar had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Valencia 41, Littlerock 40--Lauria Rossiter had eight points and 16 rebounds for the Vikings (6-2) in the championship game of the Valencia tournament.

Carrie Miller scored 11 for Littlerock (6-1).

Valencia’s Kesha Kelso and Kiarra Williams were named tournament co-most valuable players.

Bell-Jeff 64, Santa Ynez 47--Jackie Johnson had 31 points and 15 rebounds for the Guards (5-1) in the championship game of the Rio Mesa tournament. Cheryl Flores added 19 points for Bell-Jeff. Santa Ynez is 5-1.

Louisville 60, Ardrossan 59--Becky Witt made two free throws with seven seconds to play to lift the Royals in the third-place game of the Jasper tournament in Edmonton, Can.

Witt had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Royals (5-2). Rosie Chingcuangco added 11 points.

Simi Valley 55, St. Lucy’s 45--Christina Mosesso scored 19 points for the Pioneers (3-1) in the third-place game of the St. Lucy’s tournament. Jamie Sturdivant and Shannon Malia each added 12 points.

Ellen Epperson led the Regents (3-2) with 21 points.

Thousand Oaks 49, The Bishop’s (La Jolla) 30--Jenn Detmer scored 16 points for the Lancers (2-2) in a consolation game of the University tournament in Irvine.

Montclair Prep 51, Apple Valley Christian 40--Shannon Simpson had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Mounties in the championship game of the Bethel Christian tournament.

Thena Buonarti added 11 points for Montclair Prep (6-2) and was named tournament MVP.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

L.A. Baptist 81, Nordhoff 63--Aaron Davis scored 32 points to lead the Knights to their fourth Fillmore tournament title and first since 1985.

Jermaine Sweet, who was named MVP, had 24 points for L.A. Baptist (5-0). Chris Christoffersen scored 20 points for Nordhoff (3-4).

Simi Valley 66, Chaminade 51--Rafael Berumen scored 18 points for the Pioneers (5-0) at Chaminade. Brett Brownson had 12 points for Chaminade (5-3).

Santa Clara 63, La Canada 51--Nick Jones had 16 points and Skye Peterson added 12 for the Saints (1-0) at Santa Clara.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Palmdale 4, Eisenhower 2--The Falcons (4-0-2) overcame a 2-0 first-half deficit to win the championship match of the Hesperia tournament.

Ryan Rose and Gilbert Padilla each scored two goals for Palmdale, and goaltender Jarrod Cline had six saves.

Palmdale 5, San Bernardino 0--Enrique Flores scored a goal in each half to lead the Falcons in the semifinals of the Hesperia tournament. Jarrod Cline had four saves for Palmdale.

Littlerock 2, Ontario 2--The Lobos outscored Ontario on penalty kicks, 7-6, to win the championship match of the Rancho Cucamonga tournament. Andre Ramos and Leonard Griffin each scored goals in regulation for Littlerock (4-2), and goalkeeper Felix Pacheco had seven saves.

Littlerock 9, La Quinta 1--Griffin scored six goals and Pacheco had 10 saves for the Lobos in the semifinals of the Rancho Cucamonga tournament.

Buena 1, Cypress 1--The Bulldogs (3-0-2) advanced to the consolation final of the Millikan tournament by beating Cypress on penalty kicks, 5-4, when Devon Chappell found the net on the fifth kick.

Reuben Bates scored in regulation for Buena.

Buena 3, Jordan 1--Mike Bradbury, Robert Drescher and Ariel Hurtado scored for the Bulldogs in a consolation Milliken tournament match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Oak Park 3, Gabrielino 0--Rebecca Carroll scored twice and Amy Johnson had one goal for the Eagles (4-0-1) in a pool-play match in the Royal tournament. Julie Jensen had one save.

Oak Park 1, Kennedy 0--Carroll scored in the first half for the Eagles in the Royal tournament. Jensen had six saves.

Alemany 2, Muir 2--The Indians (1-3) advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4, when Erin Granados scored on Alemany’s last attempt in a second-round match in the South Torrance tournament.

Granados and Nicolette Harrod scored in regulation for Alemany.

Chaminade 3, Maranatha 2--Liz Buhn scored a goal with two minutes to play, lifting the Eagles (6-0-1) over Maranatha (5-1) in the El Segundo tournament. Kim Nelli had six saves for Chaminade.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

El Camino Real 51, Buena 24--Ten wrestlers recorded victories for the Conquistadores (9-0) in the finals of the eight-team Moorpark tournament.

Francisco Jordan, at 145 pounds, recorded five victories by pins and was selected outstanding wrestler among upper weights. Jordan, third in the City Section last season at 145, is 8-1, including seven pins.

Ernesto Monge (103), Keith Thomas (130), David Amaya (160) and Erick Cornejo (171) also were 5-0 in the tournament for El Camino Real.

Irvine tournament--Simi Valley’s Chad Troxler won the heavyweight division and was named outstanding wrestler.

Justin Holt placed second at 145 pounds and Bryce Wolcott took third at 160 for Simi Valley, which finished seventh in team standings.
