Ralph Stephens, head football coach at Garden Grove High since 1987, has stepped down, athletic director Ron Zajec said Friday.
Zajec said Stephens will be an assistant coach next season.
“He just decided he wanted to spend more time with his family and thought it was time to move on,” Zajec said. Stephens, whose team was 1-9 last season, will coach junior varsity soccer and golf.
Zajec said a replacement will be sought from outside the school. In addition, a full-time teaching position will be available with the job.
