Barring inclement weather, several soccer tournaments will be in full swing today.

The Royal boys' tournament opens with first-round action that will include 12 teams from the region in a 16-team field. The event takes place at Rancho Santa Susana Park in Simi Valley beginning at 10 a.m. with matches between Highland and Camarillo, Newbury Park and Notre Dame, and Alemany and Chatsworth.

The Hart High boys' and girls' soccer tournaments will be in the semifinal rounds.

Basketball tournaments continue as well, with the Best in the West competition featuring the Harvard-Westlake boys' team, ranked No. 1 in The Times' regional poll.

The Bell-Jeff girls' basketball tournament begins first-round play tonight and the Simi Valley girls' basketball tournament wraps up with Hart against Glendora St. Lucy's in the championship game at 8 p.m. Simi Valley faces Channel Islands in the third-place game at 6:30 p.m.
