Santa Clara Defeats Irvine Despite Rally
Santa Clara led the entire way, defeating UC Irvine, 66-59, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday in Irvine.
UC Irvine used a 22-11 run to get as close as one point with about 11 minutes left but Santa Clara was able to pull away again.
Leticia Oseguera had a game-high 22 points for UC Irvine (4-6). She was nine of 11 from the field and also had a team-high nine rebounds.
Linda Riedman, Julie Brantley and Lisa Sacco each had 10 points for Santa Clara (7-3).
In the Cardinal Seelbach Classic:
Liberty 66, Long Beach State 55--Karen Wade made 10 of 12 shots from the field and finished with a game-high 22 points for Long Beach State.
Liberty won the game with defense, getting 27 points off 30 turnovers. Liberty also scored 20 points on second-chance shots.
